BridgeQuest: Spanning a Virtual World

SeaChange Resources - BridgeQuest: Spanning a Virtual World

Exceptional times call for exceptional measures.

The Greek physician, Hippocrates, first said it this way: “For extreme diseases, extreme methods of cure...are most suitable.”

Right now, individuals, teams, organizations, countries are having to pivot repeatedly. We are learning every day. And we need to.

Survival is based on our learning agility.

At SeaChange Resources we’ve been in the business of delivering high touch immersive experiences for leaders and their teams through our Quest programs: MaritimeQuest, EQuest, SeaQuest.

Over the last several months it became obvious we needed to diversify our leadership offerings in the virtual space. So we created an online course, @ the Helm, which is a compilation of the leadership and management tools we co-developed with clients over the last decade. This is already proving to be a valuable resource for our current clients as they share the toolkit with their broader teams.

It’s also becoming increasingly evident that as we socially distance, the gaps are widening and us-vs-them walls are going up along new divides. This is happening at a time when we are more digitally connected than ever before. What to do?

In this new world, Leaders need to equip themselves and their teams with the tools to connect, communicate and collaborate across any distance.

Inspired by the growing need to foster learning agility and virtual leadership, our newest Quest was born.

BridgeQuest: Spanning a Virtual World

BridgeQuest is a highly interactive virtual team experience using a state-of-the-art digital forensics simulation to analyze and resolve maritime casualties. Remote teams collaborate on complex problems in real-time with immediate feedback.

We’ve taken best practices from our in-person Quests and applied them to this virtual experience. Of course, we are also partnering with the best. The BMT Group is a leading international design, engineering, science and technology consultancy. For our simulation we are using their 3D visual reconstruction platform, BMT REMBRANDT, which was developed in conjunction with commercial ship operators, pilots and statutory accident investigation bodies.

This hybrid tool provides functionality to merge a visual reconstruction and playback facility with a seamless switch over into full simulation “what-if” scenario testing mode. For our purposes, remote team members collaborate to conduct Accident & Root Cause Analysis. They then coordinate as a unified Bridge Team of Captain, Navigator and Helm to produce different outcomes.

That’s learning agility and virtual leadership in action.

All Quest programs are supported by 6 months of executive and team coaching which is where the long-term behavioral change happens as participants implement and integrate their learning while fulfilling their leadership commitments.
